The core potential of industry in the 21st century is to pursue “Quality of Life”. Design is an effective and systematic vehicle to enhance the quality of life. We can compete with developed countries only if we become a country endowed with strong design capabilities. The International Design School for Advanced Studies (IDAS) has set two goals: to nurture designers with global competitiveness and to enhance the design awareness of influential leaders.  

In order to achieve the first goal, IDAS offers various Masters programs and a Ph.D. program in design, and with an eye towards globalization, about half of our faculty are foreign designers and IDAS emphasizes foreign exchange programs. 

While maintaining global standards, IDAS also cultivates potential by selecting students from diverse backgrounds and gives students a holistic perspective towards solving problems. The nature of design is problem solving and this requires an accurate understanding of a problem. Innovative design is possible only when diverse viewpoints are introduced through product development, as leading design companies have shown.

IDAS owns the Design Innovation Center, the first center to be designated by the Korean government that provides quality service with fully digitized equipment and educates students and designers on up-to-date management techniques. IDAS also owns the International Design Trend Center, which provides in-depth information on worldwide design trends. It is essential to read trends and lead trends to become a top country in design. Since 2010, IDAS has been receiving government grants for Convergence Design Education, New Growth and BK21 Plus programs.

In order to achieve the second goal, IDAS promotes changes in our society through design awareness. About 270 graduates of the New Millennium Course founded an alumni association called IDAS KOREA. This alumni association created the IDAS movement, where IDAS stands for “Intellect and Design as Assets for the future Society,” in order to further enhance awareness and competitiveness. IDAS KOREA has become our supporter by offering scholarships and donations to our school.

IDAS is a small and unique school where every member feels like family. Students get education tailored to their needs and future plans, and alumni receive lifetime service enrichment, which means that once you become a student of IDAS, you are a lifetime member.
